Mothers against Drunk Driving (MADD Canada) came to Columbia Friday February 17th to educate our students on the ramifications and dangers of driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Neil, a representative of MADD Canada spoke to students during two different assemblies on the repercussions of impaired driving. With over 500 students in the gymnasium you could literally hear a pin drop as he showed emotional video testimonies from teenagers and young adults whose lives very drastically changed by impaired driving, as well as a dramatic re-enactment of one family’s story. Neil discussed ways that students can prevent impaired driving and shared different methods that they can utilize to stay safe.
Neil’s presentation packed an emotional punch that really resonated with students and we hope that they have learned a valuable lesson based on the mistakes of the people featured in the movie and in the interviews.
MADD Canada is a charitable organization that raises money to increase awareness and prevent impaired driving as well as helping to support the victims of these tragic crimes.
Proceeds from Columbia’s upcoming casual day will be donated to MADD Canada.
