For the second year in a row, Columbia has been named Zone Champion in the Euclid Contest. Now in its 36th year, the Euclid Contest is a math competition that draws participants from every corner of the globe. The international competition, organized by the University of Waterloo, puts students’ mathematical problem solving abilities to the ultimate test.
Some of the World’s Best
There were 16,180 participants in the 2010 Euclid Contest and Columbia’s students ranked in the contest’s top 25%. Wang Si Qing was Columbia’s top student and he received a medal for his outstanding performance. Each Columbia student participant has been awarded a Certificate of Distinction by the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Mathematics.
Close to 1200 schools from Canada, Singapore, China, the U.S.A., Malaysia and Pakistan took part in the prestigious competition. Every year, Columbia students enter the Euclid Contest and they excel, attaining some of the highest scores. This year is no exception.
In the Hamilton Zone, twenty one schools participated in the Euclid Contest. Columbia attained the highest score in the Zone.
