The University Placement Office (UPO) at Columbia is committed to helping students achieve and maximize their post-secondary opportunities. Information sessions, workshops and individual counselling sessions are among the ways students are supported in their university application process. Over the next few days UPO has arranged for university representatives to meet with students to discuss the supplementary application process at their respective institutions.

A Place of Mind

Innovation and leadership are among the qualities that the University of British Columbia (UBC) instills in its students. Yesterday, a UBC representative visited Columbia and discussed how UBC students become innovative leaders and develop extraordinary academic and personal skills. The information session described the University’s role as a major research institution and highlighted the unique experiences students gain from attending school on Canada’s West Coast.

Author Wayson Choy inspires Columbia Students

Wayson Choy

Yesterday over 300 Columbia students filled the Ainsliewood gymnasium to listen to famed Canadian author Mr. Wayson Choy discuss his celebrated novel The Jade Peony.

Set during the late 1930’s and 40’s in Vancouver’s Chinatown, The Jade Peony is a touching story about a newly immigrated family from China told from the perspective of three young siblings; Jook-Liang, Jung-Sum and Sek-Lung. The Jade Peony has received numerous accolades and has been honored as:
o One of the 100 Most Important Books in Canadian History
